Welcome to the premier Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Law firm of Young & Wallin. Our Nursing Home Abuse attorneys are dedicated to defending the rights of elderly nursing home residents who have been victims of nursing home abuse, neglect or medical misconduct.
According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services each year nearly three million Americans will, at some point, depend upon the 16,000+ nursing homes throughout the U.S. to provide life-saving care. While many nursing home facilities do provide quality care for our elders, far too many fail to do so.
Alarmingly, research conducted by the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, University of California found that the average number of deficiencies cited per each certified nursing facility in Arizona during 2006 was 13.3, with 13.1 of those citations being deficiencies that could cause actual harm to residents or place them in immediate jeopardy. Severe cases of elder abuse and neglect discovered included elderly patients being left in soiled clothes for hours, unanswered call lights, and, more recently, medications were not given to patients for several days.
The percent of Arizona nursing homes cited with the ten most common nursing home deficiencies were as follows:
57% cited for - poor food sanitation
61% cited for - insufficient quality of care
8% cited for - failure to meet professional standards
64% cited for - occurrences of preventable accidents
56% cited for - poor housekeeping
8% cited for - insufficient accident prevention
17% cited for - insufficient comprehensive care plans
14% cited for - pressure sores
20% cited for - insufficient incontinence/urinary care
41% cited for - insufficient infection control
